Welcome to another edition of On Watch, where we are pleased to feature an interview with Jill Rossi, Project Manager at Liburdi GAPCO in our Member Spotlight this edition. As with our previous Member Spotlights highlighting Terragon Environmental and Aquila PQMS, we are excited to showcase the innovations brought to the marine sector by Canadian companies, and especially the impact that women are making in a sector that has been historically dominated by men. It is encouraging to see our sector embrace diversity and inclusion, and to offer rewarding careers based on deep interest in all things marine to a wide variety of people in Canada.
Internationally, I had the pleasure of presenting the state of the maritime sector in Canada to a delegation of German marine companies during the annual Internal Briefing for Maritime and Shipbuilding Project hosted by the Canadian German Chamber of Industry and Commerce. The over two dozen German companies represented a wide variety of companies looking to enter the Canadian market. Many represented innovative green technologies that may be of interest to our Canadian members who are looking to partner with other companies to add this capability to their offering.

Member Spotlight: Liburdi GAPCO |

Liburdi GAPCO is a Canadian automated welding service company that uses the latest Liburdi Dimetrics technology and semi-autonomous equipment to undertake high quality weld processing. The company offers on-site, full-service turnkey weld procedures that improve quality, are repeatable, and are more cost effective and efficient for the customer.
Liburdi’s standard equipment can be customized and modified for specific jobs, and its portability ensures that Liburdi teams work in a wide variety of environments, in sectors such nuclear, power and oil and gas, and is particularly applicable to the marine sector. Jill Rossi, Project Manager, explains that Liburdi has made great contributions to frigate repairs, especially the repair and restoration of corroded Rudder Stock degraded over decades of navigation in a wide variety of Maritime waters. A dedicated repair process was built by Liburdi to restore and return Rudder Stocks back into service by using mechanized welding equipment.
Liburdi GAPCO is now opening up to the wider marine industry and offering its experience and quality processes to more shipyards as well as original equipment manufacturers in the sector. An anomaly in a male-dominated field, Jill finds the work to be very rewarding. Her first marine project was working on a submarine. “I’ve enjoyed every job I’ve worked on in the marine industry, for the Department of National Defence, for the Canadian Coast Guard, I just love it.” She values membership in the Canadian Marine Industries and Shipbuilding Association due to her passion for anything connected with the marine sector, and for the new leads and contacts she gains through the Association. Liburdi GAPCO new autonomous technologies for quality welding are well-placed to support the volume of defence and commercial shipbuilding on deck in Canada.
