More than a decade after running aground and subsequently suffering damage from a fire, HMCS Corner Brook is one step closer to returning to the waters again.
One of Canada’s four submarines is nearing a return to full operations after more than a decade of repairs and upgrades.
HMCS Corner Brook ran aground after striking the bottom of the ocean near Nootka Sound in 2011. In 2019, a fire broke out while it was docked in Victoria.
“We’re looking at a 40-year-old platform getting upgraded to be one of the most relevant, strategic assets in the Canadian arsenal for the 21st century,” said Commander Eric Isabelle.
