New Government Loan Program for Businesses Most Affected by COVID-19. |
The federal government has launched the Highly Affected Sectors Credit Availability Program (HASCAP) a new loan program to help businesses survive COVID-19. Eligible businesses that demonstrate that their revenues have fallen by at least 50% for at least three months out of the previous eight months can qualify for a loan of between $25,000 and $1 million at an interest rate of 4%.

Ultra Awarded Canadian Surface Combatant Subcontract |

Ultra has been awarded a contract to commence work on the key Variable Depth Sonar (VDS) system for the Canadian Surface Combatant (CSC) program – named the Towed Low-Frequency Active Sonar (TLFAS). This subcontract moves the development of CSC’s anti-submarine warfare (ASW) capability from the program definition phase into the full manufacture and delivery of the vessels suite of sonars.

A Maritime Cybernetic Security Center Opens in Montreal |

MONTRÉAL – Polytechnique Montréal, Neptune Cyber and Davie Shipbuilding have announced on Friday the start of a 5-year R&D partnership focussing on cybersecurity for maritime critical infrastructure. The partnership, which will create Canada’s Maritime Cyber Security Centre of Excellence, aims to develop and commercialize cybersecurity solutions for the maritime industry.

The Use of Bio-LNG Fuel Seen as ‘Prime Pathway’ to Carbon Neutrality |

The use of bio-LNG as a marine fuel is deemed to be a “prime pathway to carbon neutrality” for shipping, according to multi-sector industry coalition SEA-LNG.
The gradual introduction of bio-LNG alongside synthetic LNG is expected to incrementally decarbonize shipping towards IMO’s 2050 target of reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 50% compared to 2008 levels.
